2010 SS Camaro

2010 SS Camaro My Review

The 2010 SS Camaro Rules the ¼ Mile Race

When testing the new SS Camaro, of course you have to test it against the Mustang, and the Dodge Challenger, and be able to beat them both at their own game, if you dig in to the facts, you’ll certainly find that the new 2010 SS Camaro has done just that.

Tests may very in times that the cars run between the different people who test them, my numbers will be coming from Edmund’s web site, Edmund’s tested the hottest SS Camaro that is available to the public, and it proved just hot hot it is.

My usual forte is the old muscle cars, but I just could not refuse to do an article about the new 2010 SS Camaro, since of the big three, the Camaro has always been my favorite car, the basic setup on the Edmund’s test car is as follows.

The Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual as the gearbox of choice, you get an LS3 6.2-liter V8 in the deal, which is rated at 426 HP @ 5900 RPM, and 420 FTLB of torque @ 4600 RPM, the stats certainly stack up to the Camaro of yesteryear.

This package would have a 3.45:1 rear ration installed in the car, this is a great combination for a 0-60 blast off of 4.7 seconds, not to bad if I do say so myself, it’s a 6.2 liter engine, which is rated at 22 MPG on the freeway, not bad for a hot rod.

When Edmund’s tested this car it ran a 13 second ¼ mile @ 110.9 MPH in factory street dressing, this is pretty good when compared to the Challenger R/T’s of 5.5 second 0-60 time, and it’s 13,9 second ¼ mile @ 103.2 MPH, right in front of it comes the Ford Mustang GT.

The Ford Mustang GT did a much better job then the Challenger R/T did, with a 0-60 time of 5.2 seconds, and a standing ¼ mile time of 13.5 seconds @ 102.9 MPH, but in the it’s not enough to take out the SS Camaro, Chevrolet has done a great job building this car.

Once again my pick for top new muscle car id the 2010 Camaro SS, if your looking for a car that does all of the things that a muscle car is supposed to do, right out of the box, this is without a doubt the muscle car you should look at.

Invest In Classic Cars Wisely – What To Look For

Posted by InDaZone  Published in Parts & Accessories

By: David C. Atkin

First of all you need to learn about the car, learn every nut and bolt, know it from the ground up, once you have learned all about the the car you can get in to the hunting process, this is the fun parts of the process, this is where you put your knowledge to work.

I’m sure that if your interested in classic cars you’ve heard the term by the number, or numbers matching, you need to know how to read these numbers because they’ll make you, or break you when it comes to investing in cars.

There nothing more important then the numbers, these numbers that you hear about all the time will tell you everything about the car your looking at, these numbers are your best friend if your going to invest in classic cars, the numbers are what I’m going to talk about here.

The first and arguably most important number is the vehicle identification number, or (VIN code) this number can tell you a lot, but it can’t tell you everything, vins for different manufactures will tel you different things about their cars.

Take for instance a vin plate on your 1960’s camaro reads something like this 124379N109876, this code would break down like this.
The 1 denotes the manufacture of the car, 1 being Chevrolet.
The 24 denotes the Series of the car, or engine type, 24 being 8 cylinder.
The 37 denotes the body style of the car, 37 being two door coupe.
The 9 denotes the year of the car, 9 being 1969.
The N denotes which facility the car was manufactured at, the N means Norwood Ohio.
The 109876 denotes the this was the 109876TH car produced on this day at Chevrolet.

What you need to know:

1.The third digit would tell you if the cat had a V8, if that digit a 3,6, or a 4 it had a V8.
2.The fourth digit indicates the body style, 3 for coupe, 6 for convertible.
3.The sixth digit indicates the year of the car, 7=1967, 8=1968, 9=1969.
4.The seventh digit indicates the production plant, N=Norwood, L=Van Nuys.
5.The last six digits indicate the line number, this number would rise by one with every car built at these two plants.

The vin code needs to match will all the other numbers on the car, like the rpo code, the transmission tag, and the rear end tag, if your looking for factory original to make an investment in classic cars, it a must that the numbers match perfectly.

The rpo code will tell you things like what engine, let’s say you’re looking for a 1969 Z/28 camaro, the suffix, or end of the rpo code would have a “DZ” indicating that the car has a 302 with 290 HP, which is the only engine that the Z/28 came with in 1969.

The rpo code would also tell you if the car had an automatic, or standard transmission in it from the factory, it will tell you the application which would be a 1969 Z/28 Camaro, and in most cases it would tell you if the engine has four bolt mains or not.

You’d also need to know the color code break down for 1969 is your looking for a 1969 Z/28, below I will add the factory color codes for the year 1969.

Code 10 is Tuxedo Black
Code 40 is Butternut Yellow
Code 50 is Dover White
Code 51 is Dusk Blue
Code 52 is Garnet Red
Code 53 is Glacier Blue
Code 55 is Azure Turquoise
Code 57 is Fathom Green
Code 59 is Frost Green
Code 61 is Burnished Blue
Code 63 is Champagne
Code 65 is Olympic Gold
Code 67 is Burgundy
Code 69 is Cortez Silver
Code 71 is LeMans Blue
Code 72 is Hugger Orange
Code 76 is Daytona Yellow
Code 79 is Rallye Green

Keep in mind that the more you know about these cars, the less chance that you’ll lose money, they gain value with every year that they are on the earth and this will never stop, on Chevrolet you also have a protecto-plate that needs to be decoded.

For this article I won’t go in to the protecto-plate, but don’t fail to learn about it also, and on the engine you’ll need to decode the casting number to make sure that the engine in your car is the one that belongs there, it needs to match the rpo code.

Trying to Get a Job as a Parts Person (Again!)

Posted by AutoLover  Published in Parts & Accessories

It has been ten years since I finished high school and since then I have worked behind the parts counter at our local car parts store.  It was an easy job for me since I grew up fixing cars with my dad, so it was a logical choice for me when it came time to decide what to do with my life.  Though some may think that I could have done better with my life, I do enjoy going to work every day, so I think that I did alright.

Business at our little part shop was good - or at least I thought it was.  But as it turns out, the owner was charged last week for tax evasion and the shop was shut down.  I found myself without a job for the first time in ten years, and had to type up a resume for the first time in a long time.

I decided to take my resume down to the local Mitsubishi parts department.  My buddy Mike has been working there for six months and he let me know that they were looking for someone to fill a recently vacated position, so I thought it was worth a try.  I was welcomed with open arms and told that they would get back to me once they were ready to do interviews which seemed like a positive reaction to me.

But, I am not one to put all of my eggs in one basket, so I headed down to the Ford parts department at the ford dealership and applied there as well.  It actually sounds like I might have more luck there, but I will have to wait and see.

Whatever the outcome, I guess it is nice to have a break from working for a few weeks.  I just hope that it isn’t long before someone hires me as I don’t want to deplete all of my savings - I was hoping to use the savings for a down payment on a house someday.

Truck accessories make my day

Posted by autoMoZo  Published in Parts & Accessories

When I head out for long, relaxing weekends, I relish the fact that I’ve invested wisely in a number of truck accessories to make my vehicle the best it can possibly be. In the Northern Arizona forest lands, there are just certain tools you need to ensure safety and a good time.

Grill guards are an obvious “must have” when you are out in the dirt and mud. More often than not, having a guard has gotten me out of a jam. In fact, I’ve kept a journal about all the times I’ve helped strangers out of ditches or other challenging situations. You can bet that my grill guard has played a prominent role in those rescue operations.

A truck bed rail on the other hand isn’t something you might realize is a great benefit to being out in the wilderness. There have been numerous times where I’ve not been able to pitch a traditional tent, or I just wanted some sort of shady offering and tying up the tarp to some long posts, and having the back end secured to the solid bed rails on the truck have made for a comfortable and solid porch in the wilderness.

Can We Compete?

Posted by Moto Zone  Published in Parts & Accessories

Everyone’s been talking about the American car industry lately.  I guess I’m not a complete expert on the matter, so take this with a grain of salt, but here are my two bits.  It seems to me that people aren’t asking the important question, which is, is it possible for American car factories to be competitive in the global market?  I was looking at Toyota parts the other day for my own car (yes, I buy foreign too) and I was amazed at how inexpensive they were.  We’re talking genuine Toyota parts here, too, not some kind of shoddy imitators.   But after buying parts for my old Ford back when I had one (years ago) I expected my repairs to set me back a pretty penny.

I know Toyota accessories and things are going to be a lot cheaper because I used Internet instead of a specialty shop, but it wasn’t just that.  Why do so many Americans buy foreign cars?  Not because they’re communists; foreign cars are well made and inexpensive.  And we keep hearing about how China is getting its automobile industry off the ground.  Experience should teach us how hard it is to compete.  Maybe we should cut our losses and stick to markets we excel at, rather than propping up a failed cause at enormous cost.

Keeping a 4×4 Well Equipped

Posted by Moto Zone  Published in Parts & Accessories

cheap Toyota partsIf you own a four-wheel drive capable vehicle, then you should be aware of some of the challenges that owning such a car presents. For some people, it’s not so challenging at all. These folks have just bought their car and they are yet to understand how difficult it can be to have to replace some of the parts that keep those cars running. For others, the first thing has broken and they have started the long, difficult process of trying to get everything back in order. So what do you need to know about Toyota 4×4 parts? There are plenty of little nuggets of information worth considering.

If you go to a Toyota Parts Center, you will find that these parts are usually a little bit more expensive than typical car parts. This means that finding a good deal is even more important when you drive four-wheel capable cars. The dealership will typically give you a really high price if you are not careful, so finding an alternate way to get these parts is especially important. You must be willing to look online and find out who is known for making good parts for your particular car. There are lots of places that specialize, so keep this in mind.

Almost Time For The New Models

Posted by Moto Zone  Published in Parts & Accessories

truck parts and accessoriesIt seems like the year just started, but it actually won’t be all that long until the auto manufacturers release their new line of next year’s pickup trucks. And I am kind of anxious to see just what they come up for us on this round of updated trucks. After all, my Dodge Ram is going to be outdated by seven years with the introduction of the new models. It will probably be time to once again step up and buy a new vehicle. And given the amount of free money our government just threw at the auto makers, I think we can probably expect some cool new changes.

The biggest downsize to buying a new pickup is that you have to turn around and buy all new truck parts and accessories. It’s not like the bed mat or air intake from my old Dodge is going to fit in a new truck. And that is even truer if I switch brands and go back to having a Ford truck. Frankly, I have not been all that pleased with my Dodge, and it is starting to kind of fall apart! I do like having the Hemi though. Well just have to wait and see what the auto makers come up with.

Finding Good Auto Repair in Fort Worth

Posted by AZO  Published in Parts & Accessories

When there is a need for auto repair on the family car or truck, it will be advantageous to research and explore the options. The automobiles and trucks of this time are complex machines like the Suzuki and Mitsubishi cars that in production today. They each have very unique characteristics that vary with each individual manufacturer. Making sure that you find a reputable and experienced technician for your specific needs is fundamental to the precise service that the vehicle requires.

Building a Work Truck

Posted by Moto Zone  Published in Parts & Accessories

As of today, I’m officially a free man. No longer am I a slave to the 9-5 corporate world. Instead, I’m now a small business owner. I like the way that sounds!

So, what’s my business, you ask.

I’m going to be a roofing contractor. This is something I’ve always done on the side for years, but I’m just not getting the nerve to go out on my own. And this is actually a good time to get started. Many people are afraid of economic downturns. I actually welcome them. As everyone else cuts down on their marketing, I can step up and take advantage of it.

The only thing I need to do now is finish building my work truck. I have a new F-150, but I need to add some truck accessories to it. The first thing I need is ladder racks. Also, I’m going to need a truck bed liner since I’m going to be hauling so much equipment back there. And, of course, I’m going to pick up a toll box for my truck to secure all my tools and gadgets.

Anyway, I’m so excited to finally be working for myself. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit, but never had the funds to get started. Today truly is the first day of the rest of my life!

Customize your Own Truck and Save on Dealer Prices

Posted by AZO  Published in Parts & Accessories

Customizing your own truck can help you save a lot of money.  Many times dealers will offer you customization features when you buy a new truck, but they also offer them at a hefty price.  Dealers like to tack on quite a fee to even add a simple feature to your new truck.  Save your money and do the customization yourself.  You will not only save a lot of money but also be able to spend some time on this enjoyable hobby.

When you customize your own truck you are in control.  You are not limited to what the dealer is offering.  You can add new running boards or a tonneau cover.  You can even go big and redo the entire exhaust system.  Plus you can do whatever you want at the price that works for you.

You get to choose what manufacturers you will buy parts from, too.  You are not stuck with whatever manufacturer has bought the business of your dealer.  You can go with great products from top companies like Flex A Lite.

Customizing your own truck is a far better deal anything your dealer can offer you.  You will get much more out of the process of customizing your own truck, too.
